So I love field work... I hate sitting in class now!!! Field was fun and the students are wonderful. Sixth graders do not enjoy singing and dancing and my teacher told me good luck but you can try. It was not fun! They are too cool for that kind of stuff, but I know from working in a kindergarten class right now that they love the movement and singing time. I think it will be more successful in next semesters field work when working with younger students. The art work we had them do was great. They used shape, line and space to create a brochure on ancient Egypt and they also created their own name in hyeroglyphic writing using shape and line. These two activities went well.

I had a blast working with Michelle during field. I am going to miss the 6th graders we worked with. They are so much fun to be around and they always made us laugh and smile. I will have to go back and volunteer/visit the class. I am not looking forward to going back to class next week and having to finish up all of the assignments we have, but I am excited to see every ones happy faces and hear all of the stories from their field experience. I would not have survived field with out such an amazing field partner MICHELLE!!! We work so well together as a team and I will be sad to get a new field partner next semester! It will be fun to get to know another girl in the cohort better! Now it is time to enjoy thanksgiving with the family in the heat of TEXAS!!!! :-)

First Days of Field!

FIELD WORK IS SO MUCH FUN AND EXCITING!!!!

I have had so much fun with my field partner Michelle on our first two days of field work. Our teacher is awesome and the class is fun and full of energy. I am learning many effective ways to manage the classroom and how important schedules are for students with special needs. I have also seen some ideas that I would like to put in my classroom. He has book clubs in the class, where a small group of students read the same book and answer questions/discuss what is going on in the novel. Students even in 6th grade need to move around and he has stopped the class randomly to get up and stretch and move around. The techniques he is showing are great and I am just getting more excited for the next 3 weeks. Not to mention I have the most amazing field partner and we work amazing together. I am sooooo lucky!!

Art Reflection #5

I like the visual arts elements and principles. You can use those when doing many different projects in the classroom and can use them in your grading rubric. You can set guidelines using the different elements. This is what my field partner and I are going to use in our final assessment for the unit. We are going to have the students make a brochure and we will talk about shapes they can use, space and how they need to use it all up with limited white areas and colors. This will be a good reflection of what they learned through out our lessons we teach next week. Visual art is also very critical to teach in the younger grades so the kids understand the importance of using different colors, lines, shapes, space and more.

Music in the Classroom... is wonderful!!! Kids need to sing, laugh and have a good time. Singing is also a way that students will learn. I remember the continents by the song I learned back in Elementary school. I also see how the Kindergartners are learning addition and other concepts by singing a song. Music is also good when the students are doing quiet work. If you put on a soft instrumental song while the students are doing work it will help them work and not talk. I know it is hard for me to work in complete silence so the music would be helpful in my situation. Music can be used a lot in the class and can be very helpful.

I like putting dance into the curriculum. The kids need to move during the day and if you have them stand up and do some type of movement it will get the brain working. I see teachers use dance constantly at work. The younger grades need to get up and dance/move around a lot during the day. There is a rap song called "The Doubles Baby" that teaches the Kindergartners their doubles addition problems. One of the teachers I aide for had the students make up dance moves for the song. Now they sing it every day during math and they stand up and do the dance they created. It is a lot of fun to watch and do with them. Dance is important and after being a dancer, gymnast, and cheerleader my entire life this is something I enjoy bringing into the class.

I enjoyed our activities on drama. I think I will use this technique in many subject areas. I can use role play/ reenacting in social studies when the students are learning about different wars or groups of people in the world. I can also use this when teaching about situations that happen in books and stories. I can also do question and answer activities in groups when they are learning about literature. There are many other ways that I can integrate drama into the curriculum. I am learning a lot more about the arts and am finding it helpful when teaching.

Art Reflection #1:

In art class I have learned a few simple ways to integrate the arts in a classroom. I am an orange person in our color groups and learn very well with visuals so while teaching I can see myself doing a lot of hands on activities. I am excited to keep learning about art activities. I liked the lesson activity we had to do this week and will incorporate drama lessons into my day. You can use art to help your students understand a lot of the other subjects such as language arts and social studies. I am ready for this semester and all the exciting techniques I will learn.
